All that glistens (not just gold)

In this week’s blog I’m reviewing one of the most requested current trends. Greys and neutrals aside, navy is proving extremely popular this year, as are geometrical designs. Gold and copper tones are also on trend. The wallpaper above is a good example of how such a dark, bold colour can add drama to a room. My top tips if you are considering a feature wall, like this one, are:

  1. Prepare. Make sure your walls are sanded down and repaired/filled.

  2. Use lining paper. If your walls are prepped and lined, you will have more chance of achieving the look you want, ie a perfect finish.

  3. In larger spaces, consider using the same colour on your skirting boards. This achieves a luxury look and adds drama and opulence, it reminds me of a boutique hotel.

Above all, don’t be afraid to go for it, do be aware though in a home of a more modest size, using a darker colour can make the room feel even smaller, so don’t use bold colour statements on every wall.
